Jerome County, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Parents in Magic Valley are concerned about transportation provided by their child’s school district.
Jerome County resident Dean Dimond said he plans to attend the upcoming Valley School District board meeting to address transportation issues within the district.
In May 2022, the school district purchased a 15-passenger van for approximately $40,000. Many bus companies continue to be understaffed, making it difficult to find a bus company to undertake extracurricular activities.
The school district superintendent says the passenger cars allow them to transport students and that staff who drive the buses do not need a CDL license.
Dimond said he was concerned because passenger cars have a high rollover rate and are unsafe for transporting students.
“I would love to see a regular school bus transport my kids. Rather they buy it or work it out with the bus company. “As long as I have,” said Dimond.
Dimond is scheduled to speak at the next school board meeting on Monday, January 16 at 7:00 p.m.
