Every morning this past week, the gymnasium at Fairfield Public School was buzzing with activity. Fairfield Basketball Club welcomed nearly 62 young athletes from across the region each day to join fast-paced skill-building sessions and competitive team scrimmage to cap off the 2022 “holiday season” .
Boys and girls in grades 1-8 from Fairfield, Choteau and Cut Bank participated.
Last week, FBC teams of all ages had the opportunity to play games with other teams. Twelve games were played on the FBC hosting the Choteau and Helena ‘Cap City’ teams, capping off the week with a trip to and play in Choteau. After the Choteau game, the FBC hosted a pizza party for Fairfield and Choteau players, parents and fans. FBC Coordinator Mike Schmidt said:
“Thank you to the parents who brought their children from Fairfield, Choteau, Cutbank (Steve Lowery) and the surrounding area to participate in our program,” said Schmidt. “I want to thank Shane Gamrad for bringing his ‘Cap City’ team out of Helena and playing two games with us. Also Janelle Campbell, Matt Cornelius and Lauren Long. (Organizers), and also the other Choteau parents who came to Fairfield for practices and games and hosted us. ”
Schmidt said the FBC activities provided participating youths with the opportunity to not only develop their basketball skills, but also make new friends and see great examples of teamwork.
