Welcome back, dear fans, Happy New Year! It’s exciting to wrap up 2022 in and out of state for our big schools, 6A and 5A schools. Take a look back at what some of the Top 10 Coaches Poll teams did to wrap up the year, and ‘get ahead’ of the week ahead!
Wednesday, January 11th
Conference time for 5A #3 Meade, who has won 9 straight games since losing the opening round. The Mavs are being paced by his 6’6 senior guard, who has had a blistering 20 points per game early in the season.
Another senior guard averaging 20 points at Zach Schmeeckle added Silver Creek to the top 10 this week. Silver Creek early on ranked him 9th in hosting Centaurus with a 7-3 record. Centaurus beat two teams that Creek couldn’t beat, so this should be interesting.
The 5A #6 team Windsor went on a five-game winning streak to start conference play at Longmont. Devig Hageman is ‘stat stuffin’ with his 19 points, 3 assists and 2 steals per game for Windsor.
Ralston Valley received 26 top 10 votes this week, but couldn’t quite crack the top 10. 25 points every night!
5A #5 Dakota Ridge took her fifth win in a row and won 8-2 overall. They start conference play with Golden, who are hungry to win 3-8 so far.
The new 5A winner is the well-rounded Mesa Ridge team, currently 10-0 in Springs. Widefield are aiming for their first win of the season, but compared to the hot new #1, they don’t think it will happen.
Thursday, January 12th
Second place in the 5A, Frederick is one of two unbeaten teams in the 5A Top 10. Niwot will host the conference game and face the task of trying to stop Frederick’s pace of 80 points per game led by Luke Justice’s 22 points. game. Bring your track shoes!
6A TOP 10 ALERT! Highlands Ranch have won five straight games and are now 8-1 in 10th place, but it will not be easy to start the league with second-placed Rock Canyon. Welcome to the Jungle, Falcons!
Smokey Hill started out with the #1 votes in the coaches poll, but this week it’s down to #4. You’d be hard-pressed to find a hotter team in the state than the Buffaloes, who have had impressive missions out of state, including Arizona and California where he went 3-0. . Smoky is undefeated in the state, he is 9-2. On this night they played against his 4A manual, and the T-Bolts put on their seatbelts to try and slow Smoky’s 77 points per game.
Former No. 1 Mountain Vista is back in action this week at Continental vs. Castle View. Caden Stevens leads with his 18 points and 8 rebounds!
Friday, January 13th
We have Boulder and Fort Collins action, but nothing to do with CU/CSU… #1 Time for Fossil Ridge and Boulder to get it. Kyle Brauch averaged 18 points and he averaged a double-double with 10 rebounds, all of which the Panthers need to beat the SabreCats.
The new 5A #1 Mesa Ridge will be tested by Vista Ridge.
5A Top 10 Alert! #3 Meade vs. #9 Silver Creek. It took him quite a week for Silver Creek to try to prove he deserves to be in the top ten.
#5 ThunderRidge takes on upset Legends in Continental Action.
Young Sof Ethan Berninger stands at 6’4 and leads No. 5 Dakota Ridge in 5A to face Conifer and start conference play.
The #6 Windsor will once again stake their winning streak, this time facing a familiar opponent in the league at Greeley West.
In the first meeting of the season, Columbine has a chance to beat #7 Valor Christian in a league game at home.
Saturday, January 14th
The real “stat staff” is Deaundre Samuels with 21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 1 block per game. Samuels is leading the #6 East his Angels, who are currently on a nine-game winning streak, after starting 0-2. After a long break, the Angels will be hosting Douglas County non-conference, so hopefully there won’t be any rust.
Frederick is putting his 80 points/game track shoe pace back on the court. This time he’s on the road at struggling Northridge to clinch the win 2-5.
Mullen High School are playing a strong ball in the closing stages, with big guard Jordan Leslie burning with 25 points per game. They tested the Highlands Ranch on this night and the Falcons look to retain their top ten spot.
Hey there, hoop fans! Week 5 of the season looks as exciting as the previous week. Get out and have fun…always 72 & Sunny at the gym! #ball fever
