The City of Grand Rapids Department of Parks and Recreation wants people to know that the city parks are open 24/7.
“Michigan is a four-season state, so it makes sense that Grand Rapids is a four-season city,” said David Marquardt, the city’s parks and recreation director.
Many parks have multi-use trails and parking lots that are cultivated and maintained during the winter. If there is a closed gate in front of the entrance to a city park, it may indicate that it is not a good place to park, but it is open daily (dawn to dusk) for pedestrian traffic. ) it is open.
“Winter offers opportunities for unique and inspiring experiences in our parks and public spaces. During snowfall, the following multi-use trails are plowed.
Ah Nab Arwen Park (220 Front Ave. NW) – All paved roads are cleared of snow.
Barton Woods/Garfield Park Nature Center (2259 Everest Ave. SE) – The boardwalk connecting Jefferson Avenue and Francis Avenue has been cleared of snow.
Grand River Edge Trail East – A paved trail runs from the south end of Sixth Street Park to Leonard Street NW.
Leffingwell Trail (Trailhead is Leonard St. NE and Leffingwell Ave. NE) – A paved trail is plowed from Leonard St. to Knapp St.
Riverside Park (2001 Monroe Ave. NW) – A riverside paved trail is plowed from Ann St. NW to the park’s northern boundary. Bike lanes along Monroe Avenue adjacent to the park have also been cleared.
Seward Bikeway (Trailheads are northwest of Leonard Street and northwest of Seward Street) – A paved trail is cultivated from Leonard Street to Richmond Street.
The following parks have open gates and parking lots have been cleared of snow in some parks.
Aberdeen Park (2230 Eastern Avenue NE) – Parking lot on Eastern Avenue is open but not cleared.
Amanpark (O-1859 Lake Michigan Dr. NW) – Parking lot open and plowed.
Briggs Park (324 Knapp St. NE) – Parking lot open and plowed.
Cambridge Park (1501 Gladstone Dr. SE) – Parking lot is open and plowed.
canal park (941 Monroe Ave. NW) – The parking lot is open and plowed daily from 5am to 11pm.
Kobel Dog Park (526 Covell Ave. NW) – Parking lot open and plowed.
Fuller Park (250 Fuller Ave. NE) – North parking lot open but not cleared. The south parking lot gate is closed.
fish ladder park (606 Front Ave. NW) – Parking lot open and snow cleared.
Garfield Park (2111 Madison Ave. SE) – Madison Ave. and Burton St. parking lots are open and plowed. The parking lot on Jefferson Avenue is open but not plowed.
Highland Park (700 College Ave. NE) – The parking lot is open and partially cleared.
Hillcrest Dog Park (1309 Lyon St. NE) – The parking lot on Lyon St. is open and plowed, but the parking lot on Fuller Ave. NE is not.
Huff Park (2399 Ball Ave. NE) – Aberdeen Road parking lot is open and plowed. The Ball Ave parking lot is open but not plowed.
Joe Taylor Park (1001 Baxter St. SE) – Parking lot open and plowed.
Kenousha Park (1353 Van Auken St. SE) – Parking lot open and plowed.
Lincoln Park (231 Marion Ave. NW) – The parking lot on Marion Ave. is open and plowed. The parking lot on Garfield Avenue is open but not plowed.
McKay Jaycees Park (2531 Kalamazoo Ave. SE) – Parking lot open and plowed.
martin luther king park (900 Martin Luther King, Jr. St. SE) – The main parking lot on Fuller Ave. is open and cleared of snow.
Mary Waters Park (1042 Lafayette Ave. NE) – The parking lot on Lafayette Ave. is open and plowed.
Murrick Park (1632 Sylvan Ave. SE) – Parking lot open but not plowed.
Ottawa Hills Park (2060 Oakfield Ave. SE) – The parking lot on Oakfield Ave. is open but not plowed.
Richmond Park (963 Richmond St. NW) – Main parking lot is open and plowed. The north parking lot is closed.
Riverside Park (2001 Monroe Ave. NW) – The northernmost and southernmost parking lots are open and plowed. Guild Street and Little League parking lots are closed.
Roosevelt Park (739 Van Raalte Ave. SW) – The parking lot is open and plowed.
Sixth Street Park (647 Monroe Ave. NW) – The parking lot is open and plowed daily from 5am to 11pm.
