The Gujarat parliament has suspended 33 people, including a former MLA and two district presidents, for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities during the recently concluded parliamentary elections.
Former MLA PD Vasava, Surendranagar District President Raiya Rathod and Narmada District President Harendra Valand are among those suspended for six years.
Vasava, an MLA from Nandod, was denied a ticket for the 2022 elections by his party.
The convener of the Bar Patel party’s disciplinary committee said the party had received 71 complaints against 95 party members and leaders. The five-member committee he met twice on 5 and 19 January 2023 and decisions were made.
“In addition to this, there are 18 party members who have been called directly for further clarification. Six workers who held various positions at the Tarka and District level have been removed from their positions,” Patel said. said.
The other five complaints are such that a decision must be made in consultation with the district leader.
Eight party members charged with minor offenses received written disciplinary action, and 11 applications were rejected.
“Actions are based on merit. In severe cases, it will result in suspension,” Patel added.
