More activity than before the pandemic
Capitol Singapore, a mixed-use development housing a retail mall near MRT City Hall station, said it has organized more activities this year than before the pandemic.
Shoppers can experience nightly snowfall and be serenaded by live music performances featuring string quartets and live bands.
Shirlene Chia, general manager of Perennial Singapore Retail Management, which manages the mall, said:
“We also wanted to give visitors spending Christmas in Singapore the opportunity to experience a European-themed Christmas,” she added.
As such, the mall has revived a European-style Christmas market, selling festive goods ranging from delicacies to gifts.
Small business at the Christmas market
For small business owners who rely on such bazaars to sell their wares, these festive markets are meant to boost their livelihoods.
At one such stall, vendor Mabel Lee said he sells 20 percent more handicrafts at Capitol Singapore’s Christmas market compared to regular pop-up stores.
“Everyone is coming to buy Christmas presents because of the Christmas festivities. They gave me,” said Lee, founder of Happy Hands Can.
