The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that schools will be allowed to conduct in-person activities as long as they take place after school hours.

Vice President and Secretary of Education Sarah Duterte signed the 2023 DepEd Order No.003 series on January 26, allowing schools to conduct in-person activities amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Curriculum and extra-curricular activities involving large numbers of participants coming together in person shall be permitted,” Duterte said.

In line with the department’s commitment to providing quality basic education, the aforementioned order provides “guidance for learners, staff, parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding the conduct of in-person school activities.” She added that it was issued for A safe learning environment for learners.

“Face-to-face extracurricular activities are permitted, provided that the extracurricular activities take place after school hours,” Duterte said.

For public schools, DepEd said authorities must ensure “strict adherence to these guidelines during the conduct of in-person curricula, co-curriculars, and extracurricular activities.”
