WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A family braved a cold Friday to enjoy holiday activities in the district.
“It’s Christmas time. You have to do it,” said Rich Abeth, who was at the Downtown Holiday Market with his daughter. “There aren’t many Christmas markets around Washington, D.C., so I had to go here before they closed.”
Rich and Dani Aves said the cold doesn’t bother them too much.
“I don’t think the cold is a big deal for us. We just put it together,” Dani said.
“We’ve got about an hour to go inside,” Rich said.
Elizabeth Lowe and Vanessa Trevino said they spent a few hours outside on Friday, despite the wind and cooler temperatures.
“It’s rough. It’s freezing,” said Law.
“We’re enjoying it, but it’s freezing,” says Trevino.
Law said the key to spending time outside is to dress in layers.
“The trick is layers. I wear sweater tights, then comfy tights, then jeans,” she said.
At Wharf, the family went to the ice skating rink.
“I only endure for the love of my children,” said Ray Sewell, who was skating with them.
The Sewells traveled from Frederick to DC for a family day out. After spending her hour at the skating rink, her daughter Hadassah said her body was frozen.
“I feel like I’m freezing, literally ice, ice. “I hadn’t ice skated since I was really young, so I wanted to do it again. And I wanted to take a family trip.”
