Foreigner arrested for suspected involvement in drug-related activities in Bintulu

Bintulu (2 January): A 25-year-old foreigner was arrested yesterday on suspicion of being involved in drug-related activities.

Bintulu Police Chief Supt Bartholomew Umpit said in a statement that the suspect was caught behind a public toilet at a night market site here in Jalan Sommerville.

Police also seized seven clear straw tubes containing a crystalline substance believed to be shabu weighing 5.5 grams from the suspect.

“The suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine,” he added.

Bastholomew said a preliminary investigation found the suspect was involved in drug sales in the town area and oil palm plantations.

He said the suspect was being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952 (ADB) and Section 15(1)(a) of the ADB 1952.

In addition, he said the suspect is under investigation under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for not having valid travel documents.

Meanwhile, Batholomew contacted the IPD Bintulu (086-318304) asking the public to provide information related to drug activity.
