Fun activities, music, animals and more in store at Salmon Arm Winter Fun Fest


Winter Fest returns to the Salmon Arm this month. Plenty of family-friendly entertainment and activities to beat the winter blues.

The Winter Fun Fest, an event that premiered at the South Salmon Arm fairgrounds in November 2021, has some changes planned. This year’s event takes place over the Family Day long weekend of February 18-19 at the North Fairgrounds. In addition to different dates and locations, the 2023 Fest, hosted by the Salmon Arm Fair and the Salmon Arm and Shuswap Lake Agricultural Association, will include the popular attractions of the first fair as well as a range of new activities.

“One area people wanted to see more of was kids games, activities for kids and families,” said festival organizer Jim McEwan.

The 2023 Winter Fun Fest schedule includes a variety of physical challenges, including snow croquet, hay bale toss, women and little women frying pan toss, men and little men frozen boot toss, and a suitcase race. increase.

“Have you ever been at an airport with a suitcase running from one gate to another?” I explained that. “Running in the snow is hard, but running with suitcases is also hard. We design it so that children can also participate. They just have small suitcases.”

Other competitive festival options include an ice cream eating contest and a snow sculpture event, where participants are given 8-foot-square blocks to carve into snow-covered masterpieces.

There is a petting zoo, heavy horse sledding, face painting, balloon art, and plenty of local talent offering music and entertainment.

“There will be Christine’s face painting, Maggie’s balloon art, Kiki the eco elf, and the Winter Queen,” says McEwan. “Guests can sit in entertainment tents with live music from The Green Room, Blue & Kelly Hopkins, Kiki the Eco Elf, Hat Trick Band, In My Orange Kitchen, Shuswap Pipes and Drums, Shuswap Dance Center, Canoe Rockers and more. Returning to this year’s Winter Fun Fest is the Marketplace with 28 local vendors and the Winter Fun Fest Parade, which carries participating entries from the fairgrounds to Shuswap Street and downtown. The parade will begin at 5:00 pm on his 18th, with Hudson turning right on his Avenue, continuing to Ross Street, and turning left on Lake Shore back to Shuswap and the Fairgrounds.
