JACKSON, Mississippi (WJTV) – The city of Jackson closes out 2022 with over 100 murders.
Over the past three years, the city has recorded over 100 murders each year.
City leaders, as well as citywide organizations, held meetings and town halls to discuss ways to reduce crime rates in Jackson.
Jackson resident Kiedrick Palmer believes funding recreation centers is the best way to keep people, including young people, from committing crime.
“Frankly, if there’s more to do in this city, I think the community would be more involved in it than criminal activity. It’s sad that new activity is criminal,” Palmer said. said.
Palmer said there were crimes in the past, but not as many as there are today.
“All you have to do is find what young people and the public can do interactively. I believe that will solve everything,” he said.
As of January 9, 2023, two murders have been reported in Jackson.
