Most people who went to school in the United States have heard of Martin Luther King (MLK) Day as the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. What most people don’t know is that MLK is the only federal holiday dedicated to services that is proclaimed as “a day to spend, not a holiday.” Coretta Scott King said, “The greatest birthday gift my husband can receive is that people of all races and ethnic backgrounds perform individual acts of kindness through service to others. It’s a celebration of the holidays.
This year, the Intercultural Exchange Office is coordinating two events to honor King’s tireless work for social justice, community empowerment, and civil rights.

Get inspired by UNCSA community members reading MLK’s letter and other performances and reflections on how to live out his legacy all year long. This event is co-sponsored by Residence Life.

Saturday, January 21, 7:30 am-12:30 pm, Wake Forest University.
Join students from UNCSA, Wake Forest, and Winston-Salem State University to read to local elementary school students and increase literacy in your community. To participate, you must attend the virtual training on January 10th or 12th from 6-7pm. Sign up for transportation. This event is co-hosted by ArtistCorps and the Office of Community Engagement.
