Hastings College will host speaker Albert Maxsey on the evening of Wednesday, January 18, as part of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 16, as well as several other activities. All events are free and public.

Wednesday, January 18 Event
Albert Maxsey The Mayor of Lincoln, Nebraska, will share the “walk” of his life in a talk and Q&A session beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the French Memorial Chapel. Maxey inspires participants in many steps, including:
- 34 years with the Lincoln Police Department. He was his second black officer to be hired into the department, and in 1964 he spent a day with the late Martin his Reverend Luther King and Pershing during a lecture visit to his auditorium. was assigned as
- As part of the famous Crispus Attucks High School team from Indianapolis, Indiana, they made history in 1955, becoming the first black team to win a state championship in any sport in the nation.
- As a scholar and athlete at the University of Nebraska, he played basketball.
- As a respected civic leader, husband and father.
Maxxie is also an artist, with select performances beginning at 5 p.m. in the lobby of the Scott Studio Theater. A reception with Maxxy is set for 5:30 pm at the theater.
