This is the weekly report from the Natural Resources Conservation Officer in Northwest Minnesota and the adjacent area of Northern Minnesota on Tuesday, January 3rd.
1st Arrondissement – Baudette District
CO Ben Huner (lead) COC Anthony Hams spent the week checking out the ice anglers as the season is in full swing. Violations encountered included fishing without a license, possessing processed fish on the water, possessing small amounts of marijuana, failing to display ATV registration, fishing with extra line, It was to throw away garbage.
CO Jeremy Woinarowicz (Thief River Falls West) Continued field training with COC Matt Paavola. Time was spent checking out fishing and snowmobiling activities in the area and the Lake of the Woods. Enforcement actions this week included fishing on multiple extra lines, exceeding pollock limits, not having a shelter permit, possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana violations.
CO Nicholas Plachar (Black Duck North) It reports significant fishing activity in Upper Red Lake. Angler’s success has been spotty.

District 2 – Bemidji Area
CO Tom Hutchins (Crookston) I would like to report that I attended Plummer’s Snowmobile Safety Class. Time was also spent checking on anglers and snowmobile operators on lakes and rivers. Various complaints about wildlife were received.
CO Brice Vollbrecht (Bemidji #1) Continued field training with COC Andrew Radzinski. Several days of patrols were conducted on Upper Red Lake. There was an increase in fishing activity and the children took a week off on holiday. Enforcement measures were taken against fishing with extra line in tip-ups. Multiple shelter violations have been addressed.
CO Chris Vinton (Parham) Continue field training COC Znajda. Officers received a report of a shelter passing through the ice of Rush Lake. Remind anglers and snowmobile enthusiasts that ice is never safe. More activity in the lake and more fish in the bucket.
CO Steve Chihak (Moorhead) A week spent policing sport fishing, small game, and snowmobiling. Time was also spent researching deer farms.
CO Angie Warren (Manomen) Spent some time on snowmobiling activities. The trail is in decent condition. Ice fishing took place in the ever-changing conditions of the local lakes.
CO Jake Swedberg (Detroit Lakes) Spent some time on the snowmobile trails and lakes in the work area. The snowmobile club has been busy cleaning the trails after the recent heavy snowfall left them in a difficult situation. Many trails are now in great condition and snowmobile riders enjoy great weather and snow. Ice anglers are starting to have permanent homes in the area’s lakes as the cold weather helps break up the slushy conditions. There are anglers willing to take up the task of finding

District 3 – Fergus Falls Area
CO Andrew Goodman (Fergus Falls) Had a busy holiday weekend checking out anglers and snowmobile riders. Fishing success was limited, but mild weather facilitated plentiful recreational opportunities. Several hunters were checked as they tried to bag the last pheasants of the season. Violations encountered ranged from transporting loaded firearms to not having a fishing license to possessing drug paraphernalia.
CO Tricia Proutz (Henning) The entire holiday weekend was focused on snowmobile trail enforcement and fishing. Mr. Prauts followed up with trapping complaints, coyote hunting complaints, and many more free dog complaints. Reports of theft from fishmongers have been documented, as have thin ice areas in some lakes.
CO Shane Osborne (Evansville) Investigated complaints about fishing, trapping and shooting from vehicles. An increase in permanent fish farming has been observed in lakes in areas with good ice conditions. Enforcing snowmobile regulations was a priority over the holiday weekend, with a focus on registration, trespassing and loud mufflers.
CO Mitch Lawler (Alexandria) This week has been grappling with the intense fishing pressure most lakes have been experiencing since the weather improved. Action on most lakes is so good that wheelhouse anglers seem to set it up almost everywhere. has been issued. Snowmobile trails were also congested, with multiple operators complaining of expired registrations.
CO Hannah Wood (Wheaton) Spent a week cracking down on fishing and snowmobiles. Support was given to local institutions and a small game crackdown was also carried out.
CO Emily Devier (Morris) Spent time completing various tasks for the station. We also finished visiting the deer farm.
CO Daniel Baumberger (Glenwood) Enforcement efforts this week reportedly focused on checks on anglers, pheasant hunters and snowmobile operators. Baumbarger said he assisted CO Osborne in investigating complaints that people had shot pheasants from cars. Additional time was spent working with CO Wood checking for anglers and fishmongers on lakes in Stevens County.

CO Corey Sura (Remer) reported an increase in fishing activity in the area since the last cold snap. Anglers and spearfishers had a moderately successful weekend. Enforcement measures were taken against unlicensed fishing. Thanks to the efforts of many volunteers, the number of local snowmobile trails grows daily.
CO Patrick McGowan (Walker) We continued training maintenance officer candidates for the final stage of field training. Officers worked on lakes and trails in Cass and Beltrami counties. Area activities intensify during the year-end and New Year weekends. Enforcement actions this week included possession of drug paraphernalia, snowmobile/ATV registration violations, shelter tugs and numerous fishing violations.
CO Jordan Anderson (Wadena) Spent time fishing and snowmobile policing at Wadena Station and Park Rapids Station. Shelter license violations were common in both unmanned portable and permanent shelters.
CO Michael Cross (Lake George) We tackled snowmobiling, ice fishing/spearing, and conducting small games. Many enjoyed the trails and lakes over his week. Enforcement actions were taken for fishing, spearing, darkhouse, snowmobiling, and ATV violations.
CO Mark Massey (Cath Lake) We continued to work on background research on CO applicants. Time was spent checking on the anglers and it was found that many were catching pollock well. Enforcement measures were taken against fishing violations.
CO Adam Seifermann (Staples) It reports that it mainly checks ice anglers. Anglers have had some success with mixed bags of sunfish, crappie, walleye and pike. Some enforcement measures consisted of unregistered recreational vehicles, fishing with extra line, fishing without a license, license not in possession, and unmarked/improperly marked shelters. rice field.
