New Year’s Day Barefoot Tournament
11:45 a.m. Opening ceremony. First footer at noon. | | January 1st. The Lake Norman New Year’s Day Barefoot Challenge is he one of the longest running barefoot ski tournaments. Lake Norman Marina, 6965 NC Hwy 150 Sherrill’s Ford.

Zootastic Park Christmas Wonderland of Light
6:00 PM | January 1st. Last day of the season. Four million lights turn on while listening to Christmas music. Stop inside when you’re done to meet Santa and his baby kangaroos. S’mores, hot chocolate, carousels and trains. $10 per person ages 2 and up. Zootastic Park, 448 Pilch Rd., Trautmann.

Kane Center for the Arts Community Open House
4:00 PM – 8:00 PM | January 3rd. A free community event featuring tours, showcases of local talent, and art his workshops such as mosaic ceramic his tiles and jewelry handmaking. A showcase of local LKN performers at the theater will begin at 6pm including LKN Orchestra, Larn Music, Steve Langley’s Thorpe His Bubbles His Circus, Rusty Knox and more. Must be registered.

Renée Elise Goldsberry will perform at the Cain Center for the Arts on opening night January 7th.

Conservation Celebration: DLC Annual Meeting and Party

Senior Bird Walk
9am | Mondays from 9th January to 8th May. Avid birdwatchers offer guided walks to spot birds at Wing Haven Gardens & Bird Sanctuary and Seed Wildlife & Children’s Gardens. The 3.5 acres of open space fosters many local migratory songbirds. The walk is leisurely paced with opportunities to rest on benches and stay still for the birds.
