JAKARTA (Antara) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) announced on Friday the end of the Public Movement Restriction (PPKM) policy implemented to control COVID-19 transmission in Indonesia.
“In view of our (COVID-19) numbers, today the government has decided to cancel the PPKM policy regulated by the Interior Ministry’s Regulations Nos. 50 and 51 of 2022,” he said Friday. said here at the Merdeka Palace.
He asserted that withdrawing the PPKM policy would mean that there would be no restrictions on public activity and movement.
“But I ask all people and nations to remain vigilant and vigilant,” Jokowi said.
He added that Indonesia has become one of the best examples of efforts to balance dealing with the pandemic and maintaining economic stability.
“We can see that the COVID-19 pandemic[in Indonesia]has been brought under control in recent months,” he pointed out.
According to the president, as of November 27, 2022, Indonesia has recorded only 1.7 COVID-19 cases per million population, pegging the weekly positive rate at just 3.35%.
He added that during the same period, Indonesia’s bed occupancy rate was only 4.79% and its mortality rate was only 2.39%.
“All (indicators) are below WHO (World Health Organization) standards,” he said.
Before the PPKM policy was officially revoked, all Indonesian cities and districts were already at Level 1, the lowest level of PPKM enforcement, meaning lower restrictions on public activities and movement, Jokowi said. .
He added that the government has assessed the level of PPKM enforcement over the past 10 months.
Earlier on Monday (December 26), Widodo said enactment of a presidential rule reversing the PPKM policy would depend on serologic studies that would show the population’s immunity to COVID-19.
The president explained that an increase in COVID-19 cases in other countries would not be a problem for Indonesia if the serum survey level is above 90%, because people’s immunity is already good.
