Hickory — Senior Morning Out attendees enjoy musical performances, craft classes, cooking demonstrations and more in February.
All Catawba County residents over the age of 60 can attend Senior Morning Outs held at five locations Monday through Thursday mornings. A well-balanced hot lunch is served daily. Participants can freely participate in the program and can freely choose the days to participate. Bus transportation to and from the site is available at some locations.

Newton’s site First Presbyterian Church, 701 N Main Ave., Newton: February 1st, Bingo. February 22nd, Cooking Demonstration, Frozen Banana Snickers. Kraft with Amanda Bentley on February 23rd. February 27th, the price is right game. Senior Morning Out is operated by Catawba County Social Services’ Senior Nutrition Service and requires volunteers to assist with the program Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to noon. Please call 828-695-5610 if you are interested.
In addition to SMO, Senior Nutrition Services operates meals and related programs in the county. Additional volunteers are urgently needed to deliver meals on wheels. You can volunteer from 1.5 hours a month.
