A meal held on the first Friday of each month

Rome Township — The Lawrence County Senior Center has been open for just over a month in its current location in a new building at the County Fairgrounds, and its director is offering new activities to take advantage of the increased space said.

“We started a line dance class for beginners,” said director Darlene Green. “And a lot of people gathered.

Green said about 70 people attended the first class on Friday, while the center also played bingo.

Green says the class starts every Friday at 9:30 a.m. (except for January 27, when the center is closed) and requires no cost or pre-registration.

The instructor for this class is Cindy DeJarrett.

Green said he’s also changing the date of his monthly senior meal, which has traditionally been held on the last Friday of each month. The next event is set for his February 4th.

In addition, Green said he is planning various events over the next few months, including the start of a senior choir, and is looking for a director for that.

The Lawrence County Senior Center replaces the Sibene Chesapeake Senior Center and is located at the Fairgrounds at 7755 County Road 107 in Rome Township.
