KUCHING (January 1): A special celebration will be held in Malaysia this year to mark the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s independence, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamza said. .
Noting that the celebration will be officially known as ‘Sarawak Day 2023’, Minister Abdul Karim said his ministry will work closely with strategic partners to prepare for a more meaningful celebration. Stated.
“Although the official date for Independence Day is July 22nd, next year’s (2023) celebrations will take place earlier. It gives us the opportunity to understand the importance of dates,” he said.
Abdul Karim said during a speech at the state-level official 2023 countdown event held at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya on Saturday evening. He was the minister in charge of preparations for the countdown celebration.
He believed the 60th anniversary celebration would be a good platform to instill patriotism and unity in Sarawak’s multi-ethnic society.
Referring to the 2023 countdown celebrations, Abdul Karim thanked state arts councils, local governments, police and others for ensuring the smooth running of the event.
Saturday night’s event was graced by Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patingi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Open and his wife Datuk Amal Jumaani Tuanku Bhujan.
