Upcoming a cappella performance at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington
The Opus Vocal Ensemble will perform a program of a cappella music at the upcoming Third Sunday Concert on January 15th at Christ Episcopal Church, Covington.
Ensemble director James Rodrigue said the concert would be “inspired by the night”, “interweaving opportunities for mind-wandering meditation and prayer with the artistry of electric choruses”. The program will feature works by baroque luminaries Isabella Leonarda and Henry Purcell, 20th-century masters Elizabeth Poston and Franz Biebl, contemporary songwriters Sara Bareilles and Bobby McFerrin, and New Orleans’ Moses Hogan and Dylan Tran. and a wide range of music.
Now in its 32nd year, the Third Sunday Concert Series is an outreach for the Anglican Church. And as always, his one-hour concert is free and open to the public, followed by a reception of wine and light hors d’oeuvres for performers and audience at Parish Hall.
Concerts at the church will begin at 5:00 pm and doors will open at 4:30 pm at 120 S. New Hampshire. The accessible entrance to the sanctuary is on the park side of the main church.

An opening reception for New Orleans artist Billy Solitario will be held on January 14 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Covington’s Christwood Atrium Gallery. Prior to the reception, an artist talk by Solitario will be held from 15:30. Members of the public are invited to both events and tours of the galleries that are part of his Christwood complex at 100 Christwood Blvd. A collection of his work, Close Observation, is on display in the gallery until February 24th. Solitario spent his childhood in Gautier, Mississippi, enjoying the ocean, beaches, open skies, and life along the Gulf Coast. It is still reflected in his work today. This “classical realist” depicts the coastal dunes, coastal savannas, and barrier islands of Louisiana and Mississippi, and works for New Orleans magazine in his street studio.
