Stay-Back Holiday Activities offered on Fort Sill

Fort Sill, Oklahoma (KSWO) – It’s Christmas this weekend, when the events are winding down and people are spending time with their families. But that’s not possible for some of the soldiers at Fort Sill, so the post is hosting a variety of events each day during the Holiday Block holidays to give you time to celebrate.

7News spoke to Capt. Austin Cutley, 1st Battalion, 31st Field Artillery Regiment’s Charlie Battery commander, about what activities will be provided for soldiers who must remain on vacation.

Stay back activities will run from December 16th to January 1st, with a variety of new events happening each day. Soldiers have enjoyed his two sporting events so far, museum tours, and his two activities with the USO. They originally planned to hike Mount Scott on Thursday, December 22nd, but the weather forced them to reschedule. Instead, soldiers enjoyed pizza parties and avoided freezing temperatures.

On Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25, Soldiers will have the opportunity to enjoy the holiday at home with members of their community through the Adopt a Soldier program. This means that if a soldier in a team of 3 or more does not go home on vacation, he will be assigned a sponsor in the community so that he can spend the day enjoying food, laughter and a typical Christmas atmosphere.

This year, 67 soldiers were divided into 15 different sponsored homes, many of whom had previously participated in the program.
