El Paso, Texas (KTSM) – The Sun Bowl Association will move the Battle of the Bands and other events associated with the Fun Fiesta to Freedom Crossing in Fort Bliss beginning Thursday, December 29 at 4:00 PM.
The El Paso Convention Center, where the Fun Fiesta usually takes place, is serving as an immigrant shelter as the city and county deal with the recent surge into the Borderlands.
The event is free and open to the public. Fans can have their picture taken with Tony the Tiger, the Sun Queen and Sun Court. The highlight of the event is the band battle between Pitt and his band marching at UCLA. Both bands will march up to Marshall Road and at 6pm Freedom He’ll Play Outdoors at the Crossing.
“We didn’t want to lose one of our fan-favorite events at Battle of the Bands, so we were able to find another location,” said Executive Director Bernie Olivas. “Again, this shows how the El Paso community has embraced the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl and all the events surrounding it. We couldn’t be more grateful.”
Fans and patrons attending the Sun Bowl Battle of the Bands event must enter Fort Bliss through the left lane of Buffalo Soldier, Cassidy, or Sheridan Gates. Adults must have valid ID.
All non-DoD cardholders (18+) are required to present a current REAL ID compliant ID card per DHS policy. https://www.dhs.gov/real-id.
