With another week of winter break away, parents looking for ways to keep their kids entertained have plenty of outdoor options this time of year, including skiing and snowboarding.
Some children may prefer indoor activities that can be enjoyed all year round.
The Salida area has several places for kids and families to enjoy regardless of the weather forecast.
Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center, 410 WUS 50 will have extended hours today through Friday from 6am to 8pm, then return to normal hours.
Gillian Ferguson, who works at the Aquatic Center’s front desk, said it’s been pretty busy over the holidays so far, with lots of families coming in.
She said the best time for her family to come is probably between 2pm and 5pm.
A big favorite among the little fry is the slide. Older children also enjoy the diving board.
Daily drop-in fees for non-pass holders are as follows: 18+, $14. Youth ages 6-17, $7. Children ages 3-5, $4. Children 2 and under are admitted free.

Indoor archery practice is available at the Colorado Outpost and Western Recreation, 10955 CR 128, Poncha Springs.
Groups must call in advance to make practice arrangements.
Beginners should arrange lessons first, while those with some experience can test their skills.
The fee is $10 per adult. Children can be photographed for free, but must be accompanied by an adult.
The store can provide the equipment.
The practice range is open during normal business hours Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 7 PM, Saturday, 9 AM to 7 PM, and Sunday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

Ramps and Alleys (645 EUS 50) is more than just a skate shop.
It features an arts center for creative types, ice and roller skate rentals, and an indoor ramp room for practicing skateboarding techniques.
Owner Stacey Faulk said many people come to rent ice skates to use on Lake Franz or roller skates to use indoors and outdoors.
Falk said there will also be an indoor open skate every Sunday at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds.
The ramps and alleys are open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM.
